The Southern Railway ordered more than 2,000 of these 9’ door cars during the transition era! These cars have distinctive “early” side sill configurations that have a pronounced deep side sill support underneath the door area only, ending before the trucks. These models have the early version of the Superior 9’ door, and Miner handbrake housings and wheels like the prototype did. These cars have the “classic” transition-era red carbody with red trucks. Stenciling includes “The Southern Serves the South” logo on the right side of the car, a Pullman Bessemer plant logo, and other Southern lettering technicalities just like the prototype. The roof is unpainted (galvanized) but includes the typical Pullman overspray onto the top of it from the sides and at the ends. Finally, these models ride on Tangent’s gorgeous new Barber S-2 50-Ton plain bearing truck, complete with separate brake beam detail. Our Southern models are offered with your choice of 12 road numbers, where SKUs 01-06 have a 11-51 build date, SKUs 07-12 have a 12-51 shop date.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0613/6453/5552/files/sou.3.4.1200logo_32e81c26-56ed-439a-bab6-30847abd0afd.jpg?v=1748909170
tan34010-01
Tangent HO Scale Burlington Northern (BN) “Repaint 4-1985” Thrall 5,880CuFt 60′ Double Plug Door Box Car 355170

Product: Thrall 5,880CuFt 60′ Double Plug Door Box Car

Scale: HO Scale 1:87.1

Truck: Tangent 100-Ton Barber S-2 trucks with rotating Timken caps and separate brake beam parts

Wheels: CNC-Machined 36″ Wheels

Modeling Dates: 1985-2005

– Burlington Northern BN “Repaint 1985” shows a distinctive repaint offering. Frisco’s Thrall box cars became part of the BN freight car fleet with BN’s acquisition of the SLSF in late 1980. The Frisco’s Springfield, Missouri car shops stayed busy well into the BN era, including repainting cars BN green. These mid-1980s BN green repaints feature a distinctive graphic style with condensed reporting marks and stencil data. If you look closely, you will also see the red and white BN Springfield shop sticker in the bottom left of the carbody. It’s little details like this that make this scheme pop! This model features Freightmaster End-Of-Car Cushioning, but the Stanray coupler centering device equipment has been removed. Yes, this matches the prototype photos. The model has Ajax brake equipment on the B End along with a modern brake wheel and later-era replacement coupler lift bars. The double plug doors are equipped with era-appropriate double-pairs of Auxiliary Top Crank arms. This replica is equipped with 100-Ton Barber S-2 trucks with rotating Timken caps.
