2011 marks the 40th anniversary of Amtrak “ to commemorate this historic birthday, Amtrak has painted a number of its locomotives into a series of anniversary schemes, each taking design cues from a different paint and logo era from the railroad's history. P42 locomotive #156 is painted in a phase I heritage scheme, much like the original paint scheme worn by Amtrak E-units, and carries the numbers 1971 and 2011 on its side.
