This lively long nose, short deck sports car had a 250hp 2-liter DOHC straight-four engine, a six-speed manual transmission and 50:50 weight ratio, as well as four-wheel double wishbone suspension. The Type V model was released in July 2000 and endowed with VGS, a variable gear ratio steering system which varied the steering gear ratio based upon wheel angle and car speed: at lower speeds smaller steering wheel input gave quicker response, while at higher velocities the response was less urgent for smaller input and quicker as input increased, giving the S2000 something of the air of a racecar.
