Walthers Mainline HO Burlington Northern Santa Fe #517 GE Dash 8-40BW

Description

Power your priority HO freight behind these WalthersMainline(R) General Electric 8-40BW diesels! Built especially for the Santa Fe for high-speed intermodal service in the late 1980s and early 1990s, they were the only versions of the four-axle Dash Eight built with the then-new North American Safety Cab (also known as a wide cab), creating the 8-40BW. Many joined the ranks of the BNSF Railway in 1996 and were gradually bumped into local service in the early 2000s. Some were sold to short line operators in 2010, and many remaining units on the BNSF were rebuilt for local service after 2019. Fully assembled and nicely detailed, features of these engines include:

  • One time run of these roadnumbers, order now - limited quantity available!
  • Prototypes in service from late 1980s to the present
  • Available with ESU Sound and DCC for DCC or DC layouts
  • 21-Pin DCC plug
  • North American Safety (wide) cab
  • Molded starter points for grab irons (available separately from other suppliers)
  • Same rugged drive as WalthersProto(R) locos
  • All-wheel drive and electrical pickup
  • Dual machined brass flywheels
  • Heavy die cast chassis
  • Constant and directional LED lights
  • Correct size RP-25 metal wheels
  • Proto MAX(TM) metal knuckle couplers

PLEASE NOTE: When operating Walthers-brand locomotives in DC mode, do not use power packs that exceed an 18V rating. This includes MRC 1300-series power packs which have known issues with our decoders.
