The Tangent Scale Models HO Scale Southern SOU #42415 Greenville 86' Quad Plug Door Boxcar recreates one of Southern Railway's massive auto-parts boxcars in the Norfolk Southern-era “BS-84 Claytor Repaint 1987+” scheme. Although operating during the NS era, these cars continued to wear Southern reporting marks and were repainted in a pre-NS Southern-style scheme, creating a distinctive prototype for late-1980s through early-2000s freight operations.
Southern's Greenville 86' boxcars were originally built in February 1970 for specialized automotive parts service. Following the creation of Norfolk Southern, NS continued repainting some freight equipment into predecessor-road schemes, including this recognizable Claytor-era treatment. Tangent accurately reproduces SOU #42415 with the specialized underframe, cushioning, brake and truck details appropriate to these Southern prototypes.

The prototype's enormous 86-foot body and four plug doors provided the interior volume required to move lightweight but bulky automotive components between suppliers and assembly plants.
