The Tangent Scale Models HO Scale Southern SOU #42411 Greenville 86' Quad Plug Door Boxcar recreates one of Southern Railway's enormous automotive parts cars in its distinctive as-built February 1970 brown delivery scheme. Built specifically for specialized auto-parts service, these 86-foot high-cube boxcars combined tremendous interior volume with four large plug doors for handling bulky automotive components moving between assembly plants and parts suppliers.
Southern's prototype cars were assigned to the GM automotive parts pool serving Lansing, Michigan on the Grand Trunk Western. Their delivery appearance featured the memorable “SOUTHERN GIVES A GREEN LIGHT TO INNOVATIONS” slogan, with the car number and CAPY data positioned on the center panels. Prominent “SUPER CUSHION SERVICE” lettering on the right side further distinguishes this classic Southern paint scheme.
