Santa Fe ATSF #3621 EMD GP39-2 Prototype History

The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway was one of the largest purchasers of EMD GP39-2 diesel locomotives. Built during the 1974–1984 production period, the GP39-2 combined a turbocharged 12-cylinder EMD 645E3 engine with a four-axle road-switcher design, producing approximately 2,300 horsepower.
