Unlike a turnout, which provides a route for a train to move from one track to another, a crossing allows two independent tracks to pass directly across each other. Each route continues straight through the crossing, making the 30° crossing useful for junctions, intersecting lines, industrial track arrangements and other locations where two tracks need to cross.
