Atlas HO Code 100 18" Radius Curved Terminal Track – ATL845 combines an 18-inch radius curved track section with a convenient electrical terminal connection, allowing model railroaders to supply power to an HO scale layout without requiring a straight terminal section. It is especially useful when the most convenient location for connecting track power falls within a curved portion of the layout.

Designed for the Atlas HO Code 100 track system, this terminal section follows a fixed 18" radius and features solid nickel silver Code 100 rail with black injection-molded plastic ties. The terminal connection provides a convenient point for connecting the rails to a compatible model railroad power supply or control system.

What Is an 18" Radius Terminal Track?

A terminal track serves two purposes at the same time. First, it functions as part of the railroad's normal trackwork. Second, it provides an electrical connection point for supplying power to the rails.

ATL845 performs that function while maintaining 18" radius curved track geometry. This allows the power connection to be incorporated into a curve rather than requiring the layout designer to place a separate straight terminal section elsewhere in the track plan.

Why Use a Curved Terminal Section?

On compact HO scale layouts, available straight track may already be occupied by stations, rerailers, turnouts, crossings or other track components. A curved terminal section gives the modeler additional flexibility when deciding where the layout's electrical connection should be located.

It is particularly convenient for ovals and other continuous-running sectional track plans, where 18" radius curves are commonly used to turn the track around at each end of the layout.

18" Radius Track Geometry

The 18" radius describes the distance from the center point of the curve to the track centerline. This terminal section maintains the same 18" radius geometry as compatible Atlas HO Code 100 18" radius curved sectional track, allowing it to be incorporated into an existing 18" radius curve.

Because 18" radius is a relatively compact HO scale curve, always check the manufacturer's minimum-radius recommendations for your locomotives and rolling stock. Some longer locomotives and cars may require broader curves for reliable operation.

Straight vs. Curved Terminal Track

If your track plan provides a convenient straight location for the electrical connection, a straight terminal section may be the simplest option. If the desired connection point falls within an 18" radius curve, ATL845 allows you to make that connection without changing the surrounding track geometry.

Both styles serve the same basic purpose: providing a convenient electrical connection between the rails and the layout's compatible power or control system.
