Why Use Super-Flex Track?

Unlike fixed sectional track, flex track allows the modeler to determine the exact alignment of the railroad. A section can be used for straight track or formed into curves, allowing much greater freedom when designing a layout.

Create Custom Curves

One of the biggest advantages of flex track is the ability to create curves that are not limited to the fixed radii and angles of sectional track. This allows modelers to design broader, more natural-looking curves that follow the available layout space.

Flex track is also useful for creating easements, where the track gradually transitions from straight track into the full curve rather than immediately entering a fixed-radius section.

When forming curves, always check the manufacturer's minimum-radius recommendation for the locomotives and rolling stock you plan to operate.

Build Long, Smooth Straightaways

Super-Flex Track is equally useful for straight track. Each 36" section covers the same distance as four 9" sectional-track pieces, reducing the number of rail joints required along a long straightaway.

Fewer joints can provide a cleaner visual appearance and allow long sections of mainline, staging track or yard track to be constructed efficiently.

Cut Flex Track to the Length You Need

Atlas Super-Flex Track can be trimmed to fit the exact track arrangement being constructed. This makes it especially useful when connecting turnouts, crossings and other fixed track components where a standard sectional-track length does not match the remaining distance.

After cutting flex track, check that both rails are smooth and properly aligned before installing rail joiners and permanently securing the track.

Use Flex Track End Ties for a Finished Appearance

When flex track is cut and joined, ties near the end of the section may need to be removed to provide clearance for rail joiners. Atlas offers Code 83 Flex Track End Ties to fill these gaps and restore more consistent tie spacing at the track joint.
