What Is a Terminal Track?
A terminal track is the section used to connect electrical power to the rails. Instead of requiring the modeler to solder feeder wires directly to the track, ATL466 provides a convenient connection point for bringing power from the power pack to the railroad.
Once connected, electrical power is supplied to the rails so locomotives can operate on the powered track. Because the electrical connection is incorporated into a regular 9" straight section, the terminal track becomes part of the layout rather than requiring a separate electrical component alongside the track.
Quick Solderless Track Power
The primary advantage of ATL466 is its solderless connection. This makes it especially convenient for beginners, temporary layouts and True-Track layouts that may be assembled and rearranged regularly.
A terminal track can be useful for:
- Connecting a power pack to an HO scale layout
- Powering Atlas True-Track starter layouts
- Building temporary or portable layouts
- Avoiding soldering during initial track setup
- Replacing or adding a convenient track power connection
- Expanding an existing Atlas True-Track railroad
Functions as a 9" Straight Track Section
ATL466 is not simply an electrical accessory—it is also a 9" straight section of Atlas True-Track. This allows the terminal connection to be incorporated directly into a straight portion of the track plan while maintaining the standard True-Track appearance and geometry.
The 9" length makes it easy to substitute the terminal track for a regular 9" True-Track straight wherever an appropriate electrical connection point is needed.
Where Should the Terminal Track Go?
The terminal track can be installed in a convenient straight section of the layout where its wiring can easily reach the power source. On a simple oval or starter layout, one terminal track can provide the primary connection between the power pack and rails.
Larger and more complex layouts may benefit from additional electrical feeders or power districts depending on the track plan and control system. ATL466 is primarily intended as a convenient solderless connection point rather than a replacement for proper electrical planning on a large model railroad.
Atlas HO Code 83 True-Track
Atlas True-Track combines Code 83 nickel silver rail and brown ties with integrated gray graveled roadbed. The roadbed features correctly angled shoulders to provide a realistic track-and-ballast appearance while offering the convenience of an easy-to-assemble roadbed track system.
True-Track can be assembled, disconnected and rearranged as a layout changes, making it useful for beginner railroads, temporary setups, portable layouts and permanent HO scale model railroads.
Removable Code 83 Track
Atlas HO True-Track incorporates Code 83 Snap-Track that can be removed from the molded roadbed and used separately if desired. This gives modelers additional flexibility if the track is later incorporated into a more permanent layout using a different roadbed or scenery system.
