Atlas HO Code 83 15" Radius Curved Track – 6-Pack – ATL530 includes six fixed-radius curved Snap-Track sections for building compact curves, ovals and other HO scale track arrangements. Each section maintains a 15" radius, providing predictable sectional-track geometry for layouts where space is limited.
Atlas specifies 12 sections to form a complete 15" radius circle. Because a full circle is 360°, each ATL530 section represents 30° of curvature. The six sections included in one package therefore provide 180° of curve, or one complete semicircle.
15" Radius Curved Track Geometry
- Radius: 15"
- Curve per section: 30°
- Sections per package: 6
- Total curve per package: 180°
- Sections required for a complete circle: 12
- Packages required for a complete circle: 2
This predictable geometry makes ATL530 particularly useful when building sectional-track plans. One package provides enough track for one 180° end of an oval, while two packages provide the 12 curved sections necessary for a complete circle.
What Does 15" Radius Mean?
The 15" radius describes the distance from the theoretical center of the curve to the track centerline. It does not mean that each piece is 15" long.
A complete 15" radius circle is approximately 30" in diameter at the track centerline. Additional space should always be allowed around the outside of the track for roadbed, scenery and locomotive or rolling-stock overhang.
Compact Curves for Space-Limited HO Layouts
A 15" radius is relatively tight for HO scale, making ATL530 particularly useful for compact layouts where fitting the railroad into a limited area is a priority.
These curves can be useful for:
- Compact HO scale layouts
- Small continuous-running ovals
- Industrial and switching layouts
- Branch-line scenes
- Space-limited track plans
- Atlas sectional-track layouts
Check Your Equipment's Minimum Radius
Because 15" is a relatively tight HO scale radius, not every locomotive or piece of rolling stock is designed to operate reliably on curves this sharp. Longer locomotives, full-length passenger cars and some modern freight equipment may require a broader minimum radius.
Before designing a layout around 15" radius curves, check the manufacturer's recommended minimum radius for the locomotives and rolling stock you plan to operate.
One Package Makes a 180° Curve
With six 30° sections in each package, ATL530 makes it particularly simple to build a semicircular curve. Connect all six pieces together and the track changes direction by exactly 180°.
For a basic oval, two packages provide the curved track needed for both 180° ends. Straight track can then be added between the curves to determine the overall length of the layout.

15" Radius vs. Broader HO Curves
The primary advantage of a 15" radius curve is its compact footprint. It allows a continuous-running HO railroad to fit into less space than layouts built with broader 18", 22" or 24" radius curves.
The tradeoff is equipment compatibility and appearance. Broader curves generally accommodate longer locomotives and rolling stock more comfortably and provide a more gradual appearance. Choose the curve radius that best balances your available layout space with the equipment you intend to operate.
Atlas HO Code 83 Track
Atlas HO Code 83 track features prototypically fine brown ties and nickel silver rail, providing a finer and more scale-appropriate appearance than traditional Code 100 track while maintaining dependable operation.
ATL530 can be combined with additional Atlas Code 83 curved sections, straight track, flex track, turnouts and crossings to build anything from a compact oval to a more elaborate permanent HO scale railroad.
