The NixTrainz Decoder Buddy Mini NTZ8 is a compact 21-pin DCC decoder motherboard designed for small and space-constrained locomotive installations. It provides a structured wiring interface that replaces direct decoder wiring, improving installation reliability and long-term serviceability.
The NTZ8 is part of the Decoder Buddy Mini platform and is widely used for HO scale switchers, small diesel locomotives, and compact steam engines where full-size decoder boards cannot be installed.
21-Pin Decoder Installation Platform
The NTZ8 routes locomotive wiring through clearly labeled solder pads for track power, motor outputs, lighting functions, and speaker connections. This eliminates the need to solder directly to the decoder and reduces wiring errors during installation.
It is compatible with major 21-pin DCC decoders including ESU LokSound, SoundTraxx Tsunami2, Digitrax, and TCS systems.
Compact Design for Small Locomotives
The Decoder Buddy Mini NTZ8 is engineered specifically for tight locomotive shells where space is limited. Its reduced footprint allows it to be installed in models that cannot accommodate standard Decoder Buddy boards.
Despite its compact size, it retains full functionality for motor control, lighting outputs, and sound decoder integration.
Lighting and Resistor Support
The board includes onboard 2.2K resistor support for LED lighting applications, reducing the need for external resistors in many installations. This simplifies wiring for headlights, ditch lights, marker lights, and auxiliary lighting effects.
Stay-Alive and Sound Decoder Compatibility
The NTZ8 includes solder pads for stay-alive or power storage modules, improving performance over dirty track, turnouts, and intermittent electrical pickup conditions.
Speaker connection pads are included for full compatibility with sound-equipped DCC decoders.
