NixTrainz Decoder Buddy V1B NTZ4 21-Pin DCC Decoder Motherboard

The NixTrainz Decoder Buddy V1B NTZ4 is part of the original Decoder Buddy platform designed to simplify 21-pin DCC decoder installations in HO and larger scale locomotives. It replaces traditional factory circuit boards with a structured wiring interface for motor control, track pickup, lighting functions, and speaker connections.

The NTZ4 is a V1B-based decoder motherboard that supports modern 21-pin decoders including ESU LokSound, SoundTraxx Tsunami2, Digitrax, and other NMRA-compatible systems. It requires soldering and is intended for custom locomotive conversions and upgrades.

21-Pin Decoder Installation Platform

The NTZ4 provides a centralized interface for locomotive wiring, eliminating direct soldering to the decoder itself. All key electrical connections including track power, motor outputs, lighting circuits, and speaker pads are routed through clearly labeled solder points on the board.

This improves installation reliability and makes decoder replacement or servicing significantly easier compared to hardwired configurations.

8 Function Lighting Output System

The V1B NTZ4 supports up to 8 lighting function outputs via its connector board, allowing control of headlights, rear lights, ditch lights, and auxiliary lighting depending on decoder configuration.

The board includes onboard 1K resistors for LED lighting applications, reducing the need for external resistor wiring in many installations.

Stay-Alive and Sound Integration

The NTZ4 includes dedicated solder pads for stay-alive or power storage systems, improving performance over dirty track, turnouts, and intermittent electrical pickup conditions.

Speaker connection pads are included for full compatibility with sound-equipped DCC decoders.

Original Decoder Buddy Architecture

The NTZ4 belongs to the original Decoder Buddy generation, designed to upgrade locomotives by replacing factory PCBs with a modular 21-pin decoder interface system.

It is commonly used in locomotive rebuilds, DC-to-DCC conversions, and factory board replacements where structured wiring and improved serviceability are required.
