NixTrainz Decoder Buddy V5 21-Pin DCC Decoder Motherboard (NTZ-V5)

The NixTrainz Decoder Buddy V5 (NTZ-V5) is a 21-pin DCC decoder motherboard designed to simplify and professionalize locomotive electronics installations. It provides a structured wiring platform for modern sound and function decoders, replacing traditional hardwiring with a clean, organized interface for motor control, lighting outputs, speaker connections, and optional stay-alive systems.

This board is intended for use with 21-pin decoders such as ESU LokSound, SoundTraxx Tsunami2, Digitrax, and other NMRA/NEM-compatible decoder systems. It does not include a decoder and requires soldering during installation.

21-Pin Decoder Installation Platform

The Decoder Buddy V5 functions as a central motherboard for locomotive electronics, allowing all wiring to be routed through clearly labeled solder pads instead of directly to the decoder. This significantly reduces installation complexity and improves long-term serviceability.

Key connection points include track power inputs, motor outputs, speaker terminals, and dedicated lighting function outputs. This structure helps eliminate wiring errors and makes decoder replacement or upgrades far easier during maintenance.

12-Function Lighting Output System

The V5 platform supports up to 12 lighting function outputs depending on configuration, making it suitable for detailed locomotive lighting setups including headlights, ditch lights, marker lights, cab lights, and auxiliary lighting effects.

Onboard resistors are included for LED installations, reducing the need for external components and simplifying lighting integration in both HO and N scale locomotive builds.

Stay-Alive and Sound Decoder Support

The NTZ-V5 includes dedicated solder pads for stay-alive or power storage systems, improving operational reliability over dirty track, turnouts, and complex rail sections. This is especially important for sound-equipped locomotives where consistent voltage is required to prevent audio interruptions.

Speaker connection pads are also included for integration with modern sound decoders, making this board a strong foundation for ESU LokSound and SoundTraxx installations.

The Decoder Buddy V5 is widely used in locomotive rebuilds, factory board replacements, and full DCC conversions. It replaces fragile factory PCBs with a modular system designed specifically for modern decoder installations.
