Atlas HO Code 100 Track Bumpers – 2-Pack – ATL843 provides two track-end bumpers for finishing stub-ended tracks on HO scale model railroad layouts. Designed for the Atlas HO Code 100 track system, these bumpers create a defined stopping point at the end of tracks where locomotives and rolling stock cannot continue.
Track bumpers are commonly found at the ends of yard tracks, industrial sidings, storage tracks, terminal tracks and other dead-end railroad tracks. In addition to providing an important functional detail, adding a bumper gives the end of a model railroad track a much more complete and prototypical appearance.
What Does a Model Railroad Track Bumper Do?
A track bumper is installed at the end of a stub-ended or dead-end track. Its purpose is to provide a physical stopping point at the end of the rails and help prevent rolling stock from simply continuing beyond the end of the track.
On an HO scale layout, bumpers are especially useful anywhere a turnout leads into a track that does not reconnect with the mainline. Common applications include classification yards, locomotive facilities, passenger terminals, industrial spurs and storage sidings.
A track bumper should not be treated as a substitute for careful train operation. Locomotives and rolling stock should approach the end of a track slowly rather than relying on the bumper to stop a moving train.

Finish Yard Tracks, Sidings & Industrial Spurs
Track bumpers are particularly useful when building yards and industrial switching areas. A ladder of turnouts may lead to several separate storage or classification tracks, with each stub track requiring a clearly defined endpoint.
Industrial areas also commonly use dead-end sidings serving warehouses, factories, freight facilities and other rail customers. Installing a bumper at the end helps visually complete these tracks while providing a physical end point for rolling stock.
