The FMC 5327 boxcar traces its roots to the 1970s incentive per diem boxcar boom, when numerous shortline railroads acquired new freight cars to generate revenue through interchange service. Built by FMC, these 50-foot outside-post boxcars became a familiar sight across North American railroads. Many remained in service for decades, passing through different owners and paint schemes along the way.

This Riverport Railroad version represents the later years of these cars, making it a natural fit for modern freight operations, interchange traffic, and industrial switching layouts.
