Recreate distinctive Amtrak Northeast Corridor passenger operations with the Athearn Genesis HO Scale GE P42DC Amtrak Phase IV NEC #101 – DCC Ready – ATHG-1671. This highly detailed Genesis model represents Amtrak AMTK #101 wearing the special Phase IV Northeast Corridor scheme, including the distinctive dark gray roof used on locomotives assigned to Northeast Corridor service.
The GE P42DC succeeded the earlier P40DC and became a cornerstone of Amtrak's passenger locomotive fleet. Rated at 4,250 horsepower with a top speed of 100 mph, P42DC locomotives became a familiar sight across the Amtrak system on both short- and long-distance passenger trains. Several locomotives received this special variation of the Phase IV scheme with a dark gray roof for assignment to Northeast Corridor service.
Athearn recreates Amtrak #101 in its Phase IV NEC appearance with an as-built nose configuration, 5-chime forward-facing horn, road-number-specific antenna arrangement, and front and rear marker lights. Additional details include a finely rendered cab interior, illuminated number boards, operating LED ditch lights, flexible rubber MU and trainline hoses, separately applied wire handrails, exhaust stack, photo-etched metal radiator fan grille, and extensive underframe detailing.
This locomotive is DCC Ready with Athearn Quick Plug plug-and-play technology and a 21-pin NEM decoder connector for installation of a compatible aftermarket DCC decoder. Rear marker lights are installed but are not connected on the DCC Ready version.
Underneath, Athearn's Genesis driveline combines a 5-pole skew-wound motor, precision-machined flywheels, a multi-link drivetrain, all-wheel drive, and all-wheel electrical pickup for smooth and reliable operation. A redesigned die-cast frame provides substantial tractive effort, while McHenry scale knuckle couplers and RP25 wheel contours complete this fully assembled, ready-to-run Amtrak locomotive.
