Recreate early-2000s Amtrak passenger operations with the Athearn Genesis HO Scale GE P42DC Amtrak Phase V Low Wave #162 – DCC Ready – ATHG-1677. This highly detailed Genesis model represents Amtrak AMTK #162 wearing the early Phase V “Low Wave” paint scheme, a distinctive variation of the livery that became standard on Amtrak locomotives beginning in 2000.
Early Phase V repaints featured a lighter shade of blue along with a blue sill stripe and small Amtrak Travelmark logos on the cab and sill. Athearn accurately recreates these details on its Phase V Low Wave P42DC, bringing this distinctive Amtrak appearance to the Genesis line.
Athearn recreates Amtrak #162 with its road-number-specific as-built antenna configuration. Additional Phase V Low Wave details include the correct lighter shade of blue, large and small Sinclair antennas, and as-built air dryer guards. The model also features a detailed cab interior, illuminated number boards, LED lighting, flexible rubber MU and trainline hoses, separately applied wire handrails, an exhaust stack, photo-etched metal radiator fan grille, and extensive underframe detailing.
This locomotive is DCC Ready with Athearn Quick Plug plug-and-play technology and a 21-pin NEM decoder connector for installation of a compatible aftermarket DCC decoder. Rear marker lights are installed but are not connected on the DCC Ready version.
Underneath, Athearn's Genesis driveline combines a 5-pole skew-wound motor, precision-machined flywheels, a multi-link drivetrain, all-wheel drive, and all-wheel electrical pickup for smooth and reliable operation. A completely redesigned die-cast frame provides excellent tractive effort, while McHenry scale knuckle couplers and RP25 wheel contours complete this fully assembled, ready-to-run Amtrak locomotive.
