Recreate Amtrak Northeast Corridor passenger operations with the Athearn Genesis HO Scale GE P42DC Amtrak Phase IV NEC #105 – DCC/Sound – ATHG-1690. This highly detailed Genesis model represents Amtrak AMTK #105 wearing the special Phase IV Northeast Corridor paint scheme, complete with its distinctive dark gray roof, road-number-specific details, and factory-installed SoundTraxx Tsunami2 DCC and sound.
By 1996, production of the P40DC had given way to the more powerful P42DC. Amtrak ultimately took delivery of more than 200 Genesis locomotives, with the P42DC producing 4,250 horsepower and capable of speeds up to 100 mph. Several units received a special version of the Phase IV scheme featuring a dark gray roof and were assigned to service on the Northeast Corridor.
Athearn recreates Amtrak #105 in its Phase IV Northeast Corridor configuration with the as-built nose, 5-chime forward-facing horn, road-number-specific antenna arrangement, and front and rear marker lights. The model also features a detailed cab interior with appropriate controls and seats, newly tooled illuminated number boards, flexible rubber MU and trainline hoses, separately applied wire handrails, an exhaust stack, photo-etched metal radiator fan grille, and extensive underframe detailing.
This locomotive comes factory equipped with an onboard SoundTraxx Tsunami2 DCC/Sound decoder and dual round speakers. It operates on both DC and DCC layouts, with engine, horn, and bell sounds available during DC operation and full sound, lighting, and control functions available in DCC mode. The ditch lights alternate when the horn is activated in DCC, while the front and rear marker lights are independently controlled and directional.
Underneath, Athearn's Genesis driveline combines a 5-pole skew-wound motor, precision-machined flywheels, a multi-link drivetrain, all-wheel drive, and all-wheel electrical pickup for smooth and reliable operation. A completely redesigned die-cast frame provides excellent tractive effort, while McHenry scale knuckle couplers and RP25 wheel contours complete this fully assembled, ready-to-run Amtrak locomotive.
