Part of Athearn's exclusive Legendary Liveries series, this model imagines EMDX #150 as a factory GP15-1 demonstrator wearing EMD's period demonstrator paint scheme. While there were no known official EMD GP15-1 demonstrators, Athearn's “what if?” interpretation provides a distinctive locomotive for collectors, protofreelancing, yard switching, and light road service.
EMDX Demonstrator #150 features Blomberg B trucks, illuminated number boards, a Leslie 3-chime horn, front small EMD plow, and no front anticlimber. Operating class lights are also provided when the locomotive is equipped with DCC. Additional Genesis detailing includes a full cab interior, coupler cut levers, trainline and MU hoses, windshield wipers, wire grab irons, walkway tread, lift rings, sander lines, fine-scale handrails, and a detailed fuel tank.
Underneath, Athearn's Genesis driveline combines a 5-pole skew-wound motor, precision-machined flywheels, a multi-link drivetrain, all-wheel drive, and all-wheel electrical pickup for smooth and reliable operation. A heavy die-cast frame provides additional traction and pulling power, while body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers and RP25 wheel contours provide dependable performance. This model is DCC Ready with Quick Plug plug-and-play technology and a 21-pin NEM connector for installation of a compatible aftermarket decoder.
