Part of Athearn's exclusive Legendary Liveries series, this model imagines EMDX #151 as a factory GP15-1 demonstrator wearing EMD's period demonstrator paint scheme. While no known official EMD GP15-1 demonstrators existed, Athearn's interpretation offers modelers a distinctive alternate-history locomotive ideal for collecting, protofreelancing, yard switching, and light road service.
This EMDX GP15-1 features prototype-inspired details including Blomberg B trucks, operating class lights, lit number boards, a Leslie 3-chime horn, front small EMD plow, and no front anticlimber. Additional Genesis details include a full cab interior, coupler cut levers, trainline and MU hoses, windshield wipers, wire grab irons, walkway tread, lift rings, sander lines, fine-scale handrails, and a detailed fuel tank.
Power comes from Athearn's Genesis driveline with a 5-pole skew-wound motor, precision-machined flywheels, all-wheel drive, and all-wheel electrical pickup. A heavy die-cast frame provides additional traction and pulling power, while body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers and RP25 wheel contours provide dependable operation. This DCC/Sound model comes factory-equipped with a SoundTraxx Tsunami2 sound decoder and dual cube speakers and operates on both DC and DCC layouts.
