EMD SD90MAC Prototype

EMD developed the SD90MAC during the 1990s as a new generation of high-horsepower, AC-traction diesel locomotives. Early examples were delivered with EMD's proven 710G prime mover while the new 265H engine was under development. These 710G-powered locomotives, commonly associated with the SD9043MAC designation, became an important part of heavy freight operations and continued serving through multiple owners and paint schemes.

The locomotive's enormous six-axle frame, wide North American safety cab and distinctive modern EMD styling make the SD90MAC an imposing addition to contemporary HO scale freight trains.

All-wheel electrical pickup helps maintain reliable performance through switches, crossovers and demanding operating sessions, while the heavy die-cast frame provides the weight and traction needed for long HO scale freight trains.

DCC & Sound Options

DCC-ready models feature Quick Plug technology with a 21-pin NEM connector, providing a convenient foundation for modelers who prefer to select and install their own compatible decoder.
