Atlas N Scale Code 80 #6 Left Manual Turnout – ATL2706 provides a hand-operated #6 left-hand turnout for building smooth, reliable track routes on an N scale model railroad. Featuring nickel silver rail, black ties and manual turnout operation, ATL2706 is ideal for modelers who want straightforward control directly at the track while retaining the option to convert the turnout to remote electrical operation later.
The broader #6 turnout geometry provides a more gradual diverging route than tighter standard switch designs, making this turnout an excellent choice for mainlines, passing sidings, crossovers, yard approaches and other locations where smoother routing is desirable.
#6 Left-Hand Turnout Geometry
ATL2706 is a #6 left-hand turnout. When approaching the turnout from the single-track end, one route continues through the turnout while the diverging route branches toward the left.
The #6 geometry creates a broader and more gradual diverging route than tighter turnout designs. This makes #6 turnouts particularly useful where smoother operation and more prototypical-looking trackwork are desired.
Manual Turnout Operation
This version is designed for manual operation. The turnout is thrown by moving the lever by hand to change the selected track route.
Manual operation is an excellent choice for turnouts located within easy reach of the operator, including foreground yards, industrial switching areas, engine facilities and compact layouts where electrical turnout control is unnecessary.
Convertible to Remote Control
Atlas designed its manual N scale switches so they can be converted to remote electrical operation. ATL2706 can be upgraded using the compatible Atlas #2715 Left Remote Switch Machine.
This gives model railroaders the flexibility to install the turnout as a manually operated switch today and convert it to electrical control later as the layout grows or operating requirements change.
Where to Use a #6 Turnout
The broader geometry of a #6 turnout makes ATL2706 suitable for many areas of an N scale railroad, including:
- Mainline routing
- Passing sidings
- Crossovers
- Freight yard approaches
- Passenger station approaches
- Industrial leads
- Branch line connections
- Staging yard entrances
- Routes used by longer locomotives and rolling stock
