Atlas HO Code 83 True-Track 1/2 18" Radius Curved Track – 4-Pack – ATL461 includes four short curved track sections designed for fine-tuning 18" radius curves on HO scale model railroad layouts. Each piece maintains a true 18" radius while providing half the angular length of a standard Atlas 18" radius True-Track section.

Each ATL461 section provides 15° of curvature, compared with 30° for a standard 18" radius section. With four pieces per package, this set provides 60° of total curvature. These shorter curve sections are especially useful when a full 30° curved section would turn the track too far for the desired track plan.

What Does 1/2 18" Radius Mean?

The 1/2 designation does not mean this track has a 9" radius. ATL461 maintains the same 18" radius as Atlas standard 18" radius True-Track. Instead, each piece represents one-half of the angular length of a standard 30° section.

A standard Atlas 18" radius True-Track curve provides 30° of curvature. ATL461 provides 15° per section, allowing the same 18" radius curve to be built in smaller angular increments.

Why Use a Half-Length 18" Radius Curve?

Shorter curved sections give modelers greater control over fixed sectional-track geometry. A standard 30° section may turn the track farther than needed, while a 15° section allows smaller adjustments without changing the radius of the curve.

ATL461 is particularly useful for:

• Fine-tuning 18" radius curves
• Creating 15°, 45°, 75° and other curve combinations
• Aligning curves with straight track
• Approaching turnouts and crossings
• Adjusting sidings and industrial tracks
• Building compact HO track plans

Combine with Standard 18" Radius True-Track

ATL461 can be combined with standard Atlas 18" radius True-Track sections to create curve angles that would not be possible using only full 30° sections.

• 1 half section: 15°
• 2 half sections: 30°
• 3 half sections: 45°
• 4 half sections: 60°
• 1 standard 30° section + 1 half section: 45°
• 2 standard 30° sections + 1 half section: 75°

Because both pieces maintain the same 18" radius, they can be used together to create a smooth continuous curve while providing greater control over its total angle.

Check Your Equipment's Minimum Radius

An 18" radius is useful for fitting HO scale track into relatively compact spaces, but not every locomotive or piece of rolling stock is designed to operate on curves this tight. Always check the manufacturer's recommended minimum radius for your locomotives and rolling stock, particularly longer locomotives and passenger cars.

Atlas HO Code 83 True-Track

Atlas True-Track combines Code 83 nickel silver rail and brown ties with integrated gray graveled roadbed. The roadbed features correctly angled shoulders for a realistic ballast and roadbed appearance while providing the convenience of a ready-to-assemble sectional track system.

True-Track is designed for easy assembly and can be disconnected and rearranged as a layout changes, making it useful for beginner layouts, temporary setups, portable railroads and permanent HO scale model railroads.

Removable Code 83 Track

Atlas HO True-Track uses Code 83 Snap-Track that can be removed from the molded roadbed and used separately. This provides additional flexibility if the track is later incorporated into a permanent layout using a different roadbed or scenery system.
