Based on American Car & Foundry (ACF) plans, this highly detailed model represents the 1973 version of the prototype 89'4" flat car and is finished for BNSF Railway as road number 588036.
The prototype ACF 89'4" flat car was introduced in the late 1960s as railroads sought additional intermodal platform capacity. The version represented by Atlas was originally designed to carry two trailers or combinations of trailers and containers. These long flat cars served Trailer Train and individual railroads in intermodal operations, with many later modified to accommodate changing trailer configurations.
Atlas recreates the distinctive intermodal flat car with prototype-specific details including two different hitch styles, container pedestals and correct model-year jack pads. The model comes equipped with AccuMate couplers and is ready to run, making BNSF #588036 an excellent addition to intermodal trains and modern freight operations.
