The prototype ACF 89'4" flat car was introduced in the late 1960s as railroads required additional intermodal platform capacity. The 1973 version represented by Atlas was originally designed to carry two trailers or combinations of trailers and containers. Cars of this type saw extensive use in intermodal service and many were later modified to accommodate changing trailer configurations.
Atlas recreates this distinctive long intermodal flat car with details including two different hitch styles, container pedestals and correct model-year jack pads. Equipped with AccuMate couplers and ready to run right out of the box, BNSF #588183 is an excellent addition to N Scale intermodal and modern freight operations.
