The prototype ACF 89'4" flat car was introduced in the late 1960s as railroads sought additional intermodal platform capacity. The 1973 version represented by Atlas was originally designed to carry two trailers or combinations of trailers and containers. Cars of this type served Trailer Train and individual railroads in intermodal operations, with many later modified to accommodate longer trailers as intermodal equipment evolved.
Atlas recreates this distinctive long intermodal flat car with prototype-inspired details including two different hitch styles, container pedestals and correct model-year jack pads. Equipped with AccuMate couplers and ready to run right out of the box, BNSF #588260 is an excellent addition to N Scale intermodal trains, piggyback consists and modern freight operations.
