Based on American Car & Foundry (ACF) plans, this highly detailed ready-to-run model represents the 1973 version of the prototype and is decorated for Trailer Train (TTAX) as road number 981469.
The prototype ACF 89'4" flat car was introduced in the late 1960s as railroads sought additional intermodal platform capacity. The 1973 version represented by Atlas was originally designed to carry two trailers or combinations of trailers and containers. These cars were used by Trailer Train and various railroads in intermodal service and became a familiar part of TOFC and COFC operations.
Many of these cars were later modified as intermodal operations evolved, including changes in the late 1980s to accommodate longer trailers. Atlas recreates the distinctive prototype with details including two different hitch styles, container pedestals and correct model-year jack pads. The model is equipped with AccuMate couplers and comes ready to run right out of the box.
