Atlas HO Code 83 Rerailer Track – 3-Pack – ATL519 includes three HO scale rerailer track sections designed to help guide locomotive and rolling stock wheels into proper alignment with the rails. Unlike a separate handheld rerailing tool, these are actual track sections that become part of the layout, providing a convenient location for placing equipment on the track while also helping guide slightly misaligned wheels toward the rails.
Designed for the Atlas HO Code 83 track system, ATL519 features nickel silver rail and fine brown ties that coordinate with other Atlas Code 83 sectional and flex track.
What Is Rerailer Track?
A rerailer track section incorporates a molded guide area around the rails. As wheels travel across the section, the guide helps direct slightly misaligned wheelsets toward their proper position on the rails.
Rerailer track is also particularly useful as a convenient location for placing locomotives and rolling stock onto a layout. Instead of manually aligning every wheel precisely over the rails, equipment can be placed over the rerailer section and gently rolled onto the track.
Actual Track Section – Not a Handheld Tool
ATL519 should not be confused with a removable rerailing ramp or handheld rerailing tool. These are permanent HO Code 83 track sections that can be incorporated directly into the railroad's trackwork.
Once installed, trains operate across the rerailer just as they would over other sectional track while the molded guide area provides the additional rerailing function.
Useful for Placing Trains on the Track
One of the most practical uses for rerailer track is creating a designated location for putting locomotives and cars onto the railroad. This can be especially convenient when handling complete trains or equipment with multiple wheelsets.
Rerailer sections can be positioned in easily accessible areas such as:
- Near the front edge of a layout
- Yard arrival and departure tracks
- Staging areas
- Storage tracks
- Engine terminal approaches
- Train assembly areas
- Other accessible straight-track locations
Helps Guide Misaligned Wheels
The molded rerailing area helps guide slightly misaligned wheelsets back toward the proper rail position as equipment passes over the section.
This makes rerailer track a useful addition to an operating railroad, but it should not be treated as a solution for recurring derailments. Frequent derailments may indicate problems with track alignment, wheel gauge, couplers, turnouts or the rolling stock itself that should be inspected and corrected.
3-Pack for Multiple Locations
Each package contains three Atlas HO Code 83 rerailer track sections. This allows rerailers to be installed at several convenient locations around a layout or used in multiple staging and train-handling areas.
For larger layouts, placing rerailer sections at strategic locations can provide several convenient points for putting equipment onto the railroad without carrying it to one specific area.

Atlas HO Code 83 Track
Atlas HO Code 83 track features prototypically fine brown ties and nickel silver rail, providing a finer and more scale-appropriate appearance than traditional Code 100 track while maintaining dependable operation for HO scale model railroads.
ATL519 can be incorporated into an Atlas Code 83 layout alongside sectional track, flex track, turnouts and crossings to provide a convenient rerailing and equipment-loading location.
Rerailer Track vs. Track Bumper
Rerailer track and track bumpers perform completely different jobs. A rerailer is an operating track section that trains travel across and that helps guide wheels toward proper rail alignment. A track bumper is installed at the end of a dead-end track to represent the physical endpoint of that track.
For yards and industrial areas, both can be useful: rerailers can provide convenient equipment-loading locations while bumpers finish the ends of stub tracks and storage sidings.
