Atlas HO Code 83 3" Straight Track – 4-Pack – ATL522 includes four short 3" straight sectional track pieces for building and fine-tuning HO scale model railroad layouts. The compact 3" length makes these sections particularly useful as filler pieces and geometry adjustments when longer straight track will not fit the available space.

Each package contains four 3" straight sections, providing a total of 12" of straight track. Part of the Atlas HO Code 83 track system, ATL522 features nickel silver rail and prototypically fine brown ties for realistic HO scale trackwork.

ATL522 provides four individual 3" straight track sections that can be used separately for small adjustments or connected together for longer track lengths.

Why Use 3" Straight Track?

A standard 9" straight section works well for longer track runs, but many sectional-track arrangements require much smaller adjustments. The 3" section gives modelers a convenient factory-made option when only a short amount of additional straight track is needed.

Because it is a factory-made sectional track piece, it also provides predictable geometry without requiring the modeler to measure and cut a longer section of track.

Combine with Other Straight Track Lengths

Atlas offers several Code 83 straight-track lengths that can be combined to create precise track arrangements. The 3" section fits between the longer 6" and 9" sections and the smaller filler pieces available for very fine adjustments.

For example, combining a 3" section with a 6" section provides the same overall 9" length as a standard straight section while allowing the track joint to be positioned differently. Different combinations can be useful when working around turnouts, structures, road crossings and other fixed layout features.

Useful Around Turnouts & Crossings

Turnouts and crossings introduce fixed geometry into a track plan, and the remaining distance between components does not always match a standard straight-track length. Short 3" sections can help adjust those distances while keeping the surrounding track aligned.

This makes ATL522 particularly useful when constructing yards, passing sidings, industrial switching areas and other locations containing several closely spaced track components.

3" vs. 6" & 9" Straight Track

The different Atlas Code 83 straight-track lengths serve different purposes. A 9" section is ideal for longer straight runs, while a 6" section provides additional flexibility when less distance is required. The 3" section goes another step smaller, making it especially valuable for precise adjustments and compact track arrangements.

For even smaller gaps, Atlas short straight-track sections can be used to make finer adjustments without cutting longer track.
