Atlas HO Code 83 1/3 22" Radius Curved Track – 4-Pack – ATL537

Atlas HO Code 83 1/3 22" Radius Curved Track – 4-Pack – ATL537 includes four short curved sectional-track pieces designed for making precise adjustments to 22" radius HO scale trackwork. Each piece maintains the same 22" radius as Atlas standard 22" radius curved track, but provides only one-third of the standard section's curvature.

This is an important distinction: 1/3 22" Radius does not mean a smaller 7.33" radius curve. These sections remain on a full 22" radius. The "1/3" refers to the amount of the standard curved section represented by each piece, making ATL537 a useful geometry-adjustment track section.

1/3 22" Radius Track Geometry

Atlas standard 22" radius sectional track uses 16 sections to create a complete 360° circle. That means each standard section represents 22.5° of curvature. A 1/3 section therefore provides 7.5° of curvature while maintaining the same 22" radius.

Why Use a 1/3 22" Radius Section?

Fractional curved sections are useful when a standard curved track section changes direction farther than the track plan requires. ATL537 provides a much smaller angular adjustment while preserving the same 22" radius, allowing modelers to fine-tune sectional-track geometry without cutting a standard curved section.

These short curved sections are especially useful for:

Same 22" Radius – Shorter Curve

ATL537 follows the same 22" radius as a standard Atlas 22" radius curved section. The difference is how far each piece travels around that radius.

A standard 22" radius section covers 22.5°. Each ATL537 1/3 section covers 7.5°. Placing three 1/3 sections together therefore creates the same 22.5° change in direction as one standard 22" radius section.

Not a 7.33" Radius Curve

The "1/3" designation refers to the fractional section length and angular geometry, not one-third of the stated radius. The track itself remains a 22" radius curve.

This means locomotives and rolling stock experience the same curve radius as they would on standard Atlas 22" radius sectional track. ATL537 simply allows that curve to be built in smaller angular increments.

Fine-Tune Sectional Track Geometry

Fixed sectional track makes track planning predictable, but complex arrangements involving turnouts, crossings, sidings and multiple curves can require smaller adjustments than a standard curved section provides.

ATL537 serves as a curved geometry and filler section, allowing a route to change direction by only 7.5° at a time. Multiple sections can also be combined when a larger adjustment is required.

22" Radius Equipment Compatibility

Because ATL537 maintains a true 22" radius, equipment operating through these sections encounters the same radius as it would on standard Atlas 22" radius track. The fractional designation does not make the curve any tighter.

Minimum-radius requirements still vary between locomotives and rolling stock, so always check the manufacturer's recommended minimum radius for the equipment you plan to operate.

Combine with Standard 22" Radius Track

ATL537 is particularly useful alongside standard Atlas 22" radius curved track. Full sections can form the majority of a curve, while these shorter 1/3 sections provide the smaller angular adjustments needed to align the track with turnouts, sidings, structures or other fixed track components.
