Atlas HO Code 83 25° Crossing – Nickel Silver – ATL573 is a fixed track crossing designed to allow two independent HO scale track routes to intersect at a 25° angle. Unlike a turnout or switch, a crossing does not direct trains between routes—the two tracks intersect while trains continue straight through along their respective paths.
Part of the Atlas HO Code 83 track system, ATL573 combines useful 25-degree crossing geometry with a more prototypical track appearance. Atlas Code 83 track features fine brown ties and nickel silver rail, making it an excellent choice for realistic HO scale trackwork.
What Is a 25° Track Crossing?
A track crossing, commonly called a diamond crossing, allows two separate railroad tracks to physically cross one another while remaining independent routes. ATL573 creates this intersection at a fixed 25-degree angle.
A locomotive entering the crossing on one track continues straight across the intersecting route. There are no movable points and no route allowing the train to transfer from one track onto the other.
25° Fixed Crossing Geometry
The 25° crossing angle provides an intermediate geometry between shallower crossings such as 12.5° and 19° and steeper crossings such as 30°, 45° and 90°. This gives model railroaders another option for matching the crossing to the surrounding track arrangement.
The correct crossing angle depends on how the two routes approach one another and the available space within the track plan. Because ATL573 has fixed geometry, the surrounding track should be planned around its 25° intersection.
Crossing vs. Turnout
ATL573 is a crossing, not a turnout or track switch. A turnout uses movable points to direct a train between different routes. A crossing instead provides fixed rail geometry that allows two independent tracks to intersect.
Trains therefore continue straight through along the same route on which they entered the crossing rather than being diverted onto the intersecting track.
Atlas HO Code 83 Track
Atlas HO Code 83 track is designed for model railroaders seeking a finer and more prototypical track appearance. The system combines realistic brown ties with nickel silver rail for reliable operation and scale-appropriate HO trackwork.
Code 83 refers to a rail profile approximately 0.083" high, providing a noticeably finer appearance than traditional Code 100 rail.

Where Can a 25° Crossing Be Used?
ATL573 can be incorporated into railroad junctions, intersecting mainlines, industrial trackage, yard approaches and other complex track arrangements where two independent routes need to cross at a 25° angle.
Its intermediate crossing angle can be especially useful when a 19° crossing is too shallow but a 30° crossing is too steep for the desired track geometry.
Plan & Test Your Crossing
Before permanently securing and ballasting ATL573, connect the surrounding track and carefully check alignment at all four approaches. Run locomotives and rolling stock through both independent routes to verify smooth operation through the crossing.
Testing the complete track arrangement before permanent installation makes it easier to correct adjoining track alignment or geometry if adjustments are necessary.
