Atlas HO Code 83 45° Crossing – Nickel Silver – ATL575 is a fixed track crossing designed to allow two independent HO scale track routes to intersect at a 45° angle. Unlike a turnout or switch, a crossing does not select between routes—the two tracks intersect while trains continue straight through along their respective routes.
Part of the Atlas HO Code 83 track system, ATL575 combines useful fixed track geometry with a more prototypical appearance. Atlas Code 83 track features fine nickel silver rail and realistic brown ties, providing a finer rail profile than traditional Code 100 track.
What Is a 45° Track Crossing?
A track crossing, commonly called a diamond crossing, is used wherever two separate railroad tracks need to cross one another. ATL575 creates that intersection at a fixed 45-degree angle.
Both routes remain independent through the crossing. A locomotive entering on one route continues straight across the intersecting track rather than being diverted onto it.
Crossing vs. Turnout
ATL575 is a fixed crossing, not a turnout or track switch. A turnout uses movable points to direct a train between different routes. A crossing instead allows two independent routes to physically intersect without providing a route from one track onto the other.
This makes ATL575 useful for railroad junctions, intersecting tracks, industrial trackage, yard arrangements and other complex HO track plans where one route needs to cross another.
45° Fixed Track Geometry
The 45° crossing angle creates a steeper intersection than the Atlas 30° Code 83 crossing. Choosing the correct crossing angle depends on the geometry of the surrounding track and the way the two routes need to intersect within your layout.
Because the crossing itself has fixed geometry, plan the adjoining track carefully and verify alignment at all four approaches before permanently securing the track.
Atlas HO Code 83 Track
Atlas Code 83 track is designed for HO scale model railroaders looking for a finer and more prototypical track appearance. The smaller rail profile and brown ties provide more realistic proportions than traditional Code 100 track while maintaining the reliability of an engineered sectional track system.
Code 83 refers to rail that is approximately 0.083" high, giving HO track a noticeably finer appearance than Code 100 rail.

Where Can a 45° Crossing Be Used?
A 45° crossing is useful anywhere two tracks must intersect at a relatively pronounced angle. Applications can include railroad junctions, industrial districts, yard trackage and other intersecting track arrangements.
The 45° geometry creates a more compact intersection than shallower crossing angles in many track arrangements, but the best choice depends on the surrounding track plan and available layout space.
Plan & Test Your Crossing
Before permanently securing and ballasting ATL575, connect the surrounding track and test locomotives and rolling stock through both routes of the crossing. Pay particular attention to alignment at each of the four approaches to ensure smooth transitions into and out of the crossing.
Testing the complete track arrangement before permanent installation makes it easier to correct alignment or geometry if adjustments are needed.
