Atlas HO Code 100 24" Radius Curved Track – 6-Pack – ATL837 includes six broad-radius curved sectional track pieces for building smooth HO scale curves, loops and model railroad track plans. Each section follows a consistent 24-inch radius and features solid nickel silver Code 100 rail with black injection-molded plastic ties.
Each package contains six 24" radius curved track sections. Atlas specifies that 16 sections are required to form a complete circle. This means each individual section provides 22.5° of curvature, while one six-piece package provides 135° of total curvature.
24" Radius for Broader HO Scale Curves
The 24" radius provides a broader, more gradual curve than Atlas 15", 18" and 22" radius sectional track. Broader curves can provide a more realistic appearance as locomotives and rolling stock travel around the layout while also providing additional clearance for equipment that may not operate reliably on tighter curves.
A 24" radius can be particularly useful for layouts operating longer locomotives, passenger cars and other equipment that benefits from broader track geometry. Minimum-radius requirements vary by model, so always check the manufacturer's recommendations for the locomotives and rolling stock you intend to operate.
Atlas 24" Radius Track Geometry
- 6 curved track sections per package
- 24" fixed curve radius
- 16 sections required for a complete circle
- Each section provides 22.5° of curvature
- One 6-pack provides 135° of total curvature
- 8 sections create a 180° semicircle
Because a complete 24" radius circle requires 16 sections, two six-packs alone are not enough to create a complete circle. If starting from zero, three 6-packs provide enough track for a complete 24" radius circle, with two curved sections remaining for future layout expansion.
How Much Space Does a 24" Radius Curve Need?
A 24" radius means the track centerline is approximately 24 inches from the center point of the curve. A complete 24" radius circle therefore measures approximately 48 inches across at the track centerline, before allowing additional space for track width, roadbed, scenery and clearance from the edge of the layout.
This is important when planning benchwork or a continuous-running layout. Always provide additional clearance beyond the nominal 48" track-centerline diameter so locomotives and rolling stock have adequate space around the outside of the curve.
