Description
From the mid-60’s to the 80’s, the American Car & Foundry Company made thousands of these covered hoppers for shipping dry bulk commodities like grain, fertilizer, plastics, and others.
This kit is designed to produce an accurate model of this freight car in 1:450 scale.
Wheelsets, weights/magnets, decals and paint are not included.
Recommended Tools:
Hobby knife
Tweezers
Krystal Klear or PVA adhesive, or ACC
Body Material and Painting:
This 3D printed shell is made from a custom-blend resin which is like plastic but slightly more brittle. If repairs are needed, superglue, UV activated cement, or epoxy works well. Resin sands easily (if needed) but note that resin dust can be irritating so wet-sanding and/or a small vacuum will help keep things tidy.
Primer should be applied before painting. Tamiya Fine Surface Primer from a rattle can is excellent and widely available. That being said, 3D resin accepts most primers without trouble; We have used various acrylic as well as lacquer primers.
Decorate per prototype reference photos. Note: CCE makes a special decal set for the ACF Covered Hopper including several different road names.
