This special illuminated set includes seven individually decorated Amfleet I coaches representing Amtrak Phase I, Phase II, Phase III, Phase IV, Phase V Acela, Phase VI and Phase VII.

The prototype Amfleet I passenger cars emerged from Amtrak's effort to replace aging passenger equipment inherited from predecessor railroads. Amtrak placed its initial order with Budd in 1973, beginning the story of a passenger car design that would become one of the most recognizable pieces of Amtrak equipment. Featuring doors and vestibules at both ends, Amfleet I cars have been extensively used on corridor and shorter-distance passenger routes.

This limited edition Kato N Scale set showcases the evolution of Amtrak's appearance by representing seven different paint phases in one collection. From the early Phase I scheme through today's Phase VII appearance, each individually numbered coach represents a different period in the history of America's national passenger railroad.
