Beginning in the 1970s, the Budd-built Amfleet I cars introduced a new generation of single-level passenger equipment to Amtrak. Distinguished by doors and vestibules at both ends, Amfleet I cars have remained an important part of the Amtrak fleet and are especially associated with shorter-distance and corridor passenger service.
