How Many Trains Can the NCE Power Cab Run?

The Power Cab provides up to 2 amps of DCC power. NCE uses a general estimate of approximately 0.5 amp for a typical HO scale locomotive and approximately 0.25 amp for a typical N scale locomotive. Using those estimates, an NCE Power Cab can operate approximately four HO scale locomotives or eight N scale locomotives simultaneously.

Actual capacity varies depending on the locomotives, motors, lighting, sound decoders, accessories, and other electrical loads connected to the DCC system. Locomotives sitting idle generally require significantly less power than locomotives actively operating.
