Introduced in 1976, the General Electric C30-7 was developed as the successor to the earlier GE U30C. Powered by a 16-cylinder diesel engine producing 3,000 horsepower, the C30-7 featured a six-axle C-C wheel arrangement designed for heavy mainline freight operations.

More than 1,100 C30-7 locomotives were produced through 1986, serving major North American railroads in coal, merchandise and other demanding freight assignments.
