Prototype History
Introduced in 1981, Bombardier's LRC passenger coaches became a mainstay of VIA Rail Canada's intercity passenger fleet. Designed for comfortable, efficient service, these lightweight cars operated extensively throughout Ontario and Quebec behind LRC, F40PH-2D, and P42DC locomotives.
Beginning in 2010, VIA Rail undertook a refurbishment program for its LRC fleet. The Renaissance Scheme, introduced in 2013, brought a refreshed green, grey, and yellow appearance to the equipment, giving these long-serving passenger cars a distinctive modern look.
