The EMD GP38 was a versatile 2,000-horsepower, four-axle diesel locomotive that became a familiar sight in road freight, local freight, switching and yard assignments. Many GP38 locomotives were later rebuilt and upgraded, extending the service lives of these dependable EMD road switchers for decades.
