This DC/Silent locomotive is designed for conventional DC operation and features a 21-pin DCC-ready decoder connection for modelers planning a future DCC conversion. It does not include a factory-installed sound decoder.

Fairbanks-Morse H16-44 – Classic Virginian Railway Diesel Power

The Fairbanks-Morse H16-44 was a 1,600-horsepower, four-axle diesel-electric road switcher powered by the manufacturer's distinctive opposed-piston diesel engine. Introduced in 1950, the H16-44 offered railroads a versatile locomotive for freight and general-purpose service.

The redesigned Phase III H16-44, introduced in 1955, featured raised walkways, updated hood construction and styling reminiscent of the larger Fairbanks-Morse H24-66 Train Master. Its distinctive appearance and B-B wheel arrangement made it a recognizable member of the first-generation diesel locomotive family.

Virginian Railway #47 represents the railroad's use of Fairbanks-Morse diesel power during the transition from steam to diesel operations. The Virginian's distinctive yellow-and-black paint scheme makes this locomotive an attractive addition to layouts depicting Appalachian coal country, regional freight operations and the railroad's final years before its 1959 merger with Norfolk & Western.
